Clarksville Hydroplane Challenge October 2 - 3, 2010
"Racing Between the Bridges"
Inboard and Outboards
The Cambridge Powerboat Regatta Association sponsored two fantastic days of combined inboard and outboard racing at Clarksville, Virginia. The Clarksville area had been deluged by over 6 inches of rain in the days before the race weekend, but the weather for racing could not have been better. The heavy rainfall however created muddy conditions in the outboard pits, and the trailers had to be towed to the pit area by two 4WD tractors on Friday and Friday night. The lake rose on Saturday night, and the tractors had to some in Sunday morning and re-spot the trailers again farther up the bank. By Sunday afternoon, the sun had dried out the bank for the smaller trailers to be pulled out without the tractors.
The big inboard course made for flatout racing all the way around for the outboards. The sponsors of the race and the town of Clarksville really know how to put on a great race! If you have never made the trip to Clarksville, you should plan for it next year; watch for it around the first weekend of October.
