TABOR CITY, NORTH CAROLINA -  SOUTH EASTERN DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Carolina Virginia Racing Association (CVRA) hosted the South Eastern Divisional Championships on May 14 and 15 on beautiful Lake Tabor in Tabor City, North Carolina.  Close to the tourist destination of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the CVRA has been racing at Lake Tabor for four seasons.    The lake is a great site for racing, ringed with some beautiful lake homes and cyprus trees.  Aside from a short weather delay on Saturday for a passing thunderstorm, both days were almost perfect for powerboat racing.  Three classes had the required eight entries to qualify the winners for the National Championships later this summer in Wakefield, MI, A Stock Hydro, 20 Super Stock Hydro, and C Stock Hydro.  Winners in these classes were Abby Pond (ASH), Tom Burwinkle (20SSH), and Matt D’Agostino (CSH).  All heats were conducted safely and injury free; however, three drivers took the opportunity to depart their boats for a brief unexpected swim.
