Has anyone ever asked you that question before?  Perhaps the question was posed to you in a somewhat confrontational tone like “Just who do you think you are anyway?”, but that is not the context of the question.

The fundamental question of who we are has many answers.  Such as, a son or a daughter, a husband or wife, a brother or sister, a grandparent, perhaps a great-grandparent; a friend (or an enemy), a peacemaker (or perhaps a trouble maker), a student, a worker, a retired person, etc.  So who we are is actually a composite of many things.  Much of who we are is obvious to us, but we are sometimes blind to many of the characteristics and qualities that make up who we are.

Which really brings me to the most important question of all:  Who does God say that we are?

Genesis 1:27: “God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him.”

Psalms 8:6-8: “What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?  You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.  You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.”

1 Cor 11:7: "Man is the image and glory of God.”

 And finally:

Romans 5:8: "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were sinners, Christ died for us.”

So no matter who you are or what you believe about yourself, be assured that God has the deepest abiding love for you.  So much so, that he sent his son Jesus Christ to take our place on the cross and die for our sins.
