Opinions….everybody has one, at least one, and usually many of them.  Some of us are quick to share them with little or no prompting.  Others of us are slower to offer an opinion about anything without being explicitly asked.   Equally important to what we think or believe, is why we think or believe it.

Perhaps the most important topic that is seldom raised in conversation is who we believe Jesus is.  In his time, he was considered to be a teacher, a prophet, a rabbi, a moral man, a blasphemer, the redeemer, a mad man, the king of the Jews, and lord and savior.

After two centuries, these are the same opinions held today.  Our opinion about Jesus is quite simply the only belief that will matter when life’s final chapter is written.  When the apostle Peter was asked who he believed Jesus was, he responded quite simply:

“You are the Christ [i.e. savior, messiah] the son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16)

Paul reinforces the importance of what we believe when he wrote to the first century church in Philippi, Greece:

“Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.”  (Philippians 2:9-11).

If you haven’t seriously considered the question in your own mind, now is the time while it is still day.

So what say you, who do you believe Jesus is?

See you at the ramp!
