A question:

Before Mount Everest was discovered, what was the tallest mountain on earth?

Before you Google search for the answer, consider the period of time man has walked the earth, and the amount of knowledge mankind has accumulated.  Our technological advances would have been unimaginable 100 years ago, or even 50 years ago.  Where might it all be heading in the next 100 years?  Even today, it’s hard for us to envision the future.

But back to the question about Mount Everest.  I have no idea which eastern peoples may have first gazed upon its majestic peak, nor do I know when its lofty height was determined and compared to other mountains.  The simple answer to the question is that Mount Everest has always been the highest mountain.  Just because man discovered it and more recent men were able to determine its height, the fact is that since creation, it has probably always been the tallest mountain.  Our discovery of it did nothing to change its status.

So to it is with God.  Before he revealed himself to us, he was there.  Before we knew of his power and greatness, he had it.  Our discovery of him does nothing to change his status.  He was, is, and will always be God.

In Job 12, Job instructed his friends with these words:

“But ask the animals and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you.  Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this?  In his hand is the life of every living creature and the breath of all mankind.”

All of God’s creation already knows what we long to discover.

See you at the ramp!
