Probably we have at one time or another thought about what we would do differently if we could reset life’s clock.  It’s not very productive to dwell on such thoughts since rolling back time is not possible.  However, it is useful to apply life’s lessons to the future so our forward decision-making is not destined to repeat our past mistakes.  Some of the things I might have done differently ‘if I only knew’:

·        I would never have sold my 1964 Pontiac Tempest convertible or my 1967 GTO convertible.

·        I would not have gone cliff diving in an unfamiliar rock quarry.

·        I would not have engaged in other miscellaneous risky behaviors which shall remain unmentioned.

Of things more important that I should have done, and should strive to do better in the future:

·        I would have saved more money early in my career so that I would have more now for more useful purposes (see below).

·        I would have said “yes” to friends with needs that I could have met.

·        I would have spent more special time with others and less on what I wanted to do.

·        I would have spent more time studying God’s word and seeking his purpose for my life.

So what’s the point?  If these were good decisions to have made earlier in life, they are still good decisions to make today.  Granted, years have gone by and there is less time to apply some of these lessons.  Still, opportunities abound where saved money can and should be given away to worthy causes to help others.  Friends I know (and friends I don’t yet know) still have needs that I can meet.  Some will ask for help to meet a need, but most probably won’t.  For those that won’t, we have to be able to see and perceive needs and be there to help meet them.  I am still blessed with many friends and family in my life that I should make a more of a priority for spending time.  I think you probably get the point.

What about you?  What is it that you should be doing differently?

“Be very careful, then how you live – not as unwise but wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.  Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” (Ephesians 5:15-17).

See you at the ramp.
